Which animals can you expect to see in the Caprivi?

The combination of rivers, wetlands and woodland creates a great diversity of wildlife. You may encounter, among others,  elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo and various antelope species  The Caprivi is also particularly interesting for birdwatchers. Here you may see, among others,  African Fish Eagles, various kingfishers, bee-eaters, herons, storks and colourful kingfishers  A boat trip in particular often gives you a completely different perspective on the birdlife along the river.

How much time do you need for the Caprivi?

The Caprivi is approximately 450 kilometres long and is primarily an area to travel through at a leisurely pace. For a first visit, we recommend  a minimum of three nights  If you have more time, you can combine several nature areas without having to drive long distances every day.

Question 3

Is a sunset cruise in the Caprivi worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. In our view, a sunset cruise is one of the most beautiful experiences in the Caprivi. But when planning your trip, look above all at the  bigger picture . For example, if you are also visiting Chobe, we would not plan a boat trip in both places. Instead, choose one good sunset cruise during your trip. Our view is:  the smaller the boat and the fewer passengers on board, the more beautiful and personal the experience . If you can choose between a large boat with lots of passengers and a small-scale boat, we would always go for the latter option. So, on a three-week trip, you certainly do not need to plan several sunset cruises. In our view, one well-chosen boat trip, in the place where the experience best fits your overall route, is far more valuable.

Can you explore the Caprivi independently with a hire car?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Caprivi is well suited to a self-drive, but some routes and areas require a 4x4 and good preparation. We can help determine which route makes sense and where it would be better to allow a little extra time. We will also take combining it with Botswana or Zambia into account when planning.

Which areas and nature parks can you visit in the Caprivi?

Accepted Answer

The Caprivi consists of several nature areas, each with its own character. From Rundu, you can travel towards, among others,  Bwabwata National Park, Mahango Game Park, Mudumu National Park and Nkasa Rupara National Park Further east lie the river areas around  Kwando, Linyanti, Chobe and the Zambezi . Which areas are best suited depends on your route, travel time and interests.
