The  Mbuna cichlids.  These curious fish are anything but shy, shimmering in every shade of blue, yellow and orange as they scrape algae from the rocks. Because the water is so clear, you can see up close how territorially they defend their own patch of rock. With a simple snorkel, you can immediately see why this unique underwater paradise is world-famous.

Yes, you can absolutely enjoy a wonderful swim in Lake Malawi! With one simple precaution, you can enjoy the crystal-clear water without a worry.  Because there is a risk of bilharzia in the lake, it is advisable to take a preventive tablet after your trip. This tablet is readily available from any pharmacy in Malawi. Consult your doctor beforehand about your specific situation if you feel this is necessary.

How many days do you recommend for Lake Malawi?

That depends on your trip.  For most tours, we find   three to four nights   ideal. That gives you enough time to relax after all the impressions of the safaris, while still enjoying a few activities on the lake. Have you got more time? Then Lake Malawi is a wonderful place to stay a little longer.
