When are the Victoria Falls at their most beautiful?

Accepted Answer

That depends on what you want to see. Shortly after the rainy season , usually between  April and June , the Victoria Falls have their highest flow. The falls are at their most spectacular then, and the enormous clouds of spray make a huge impression. Later in the dry season, the views of the rock faces improve, allowing you to appreciate the structure of the falls more clearly. Both periods therefore have their own charm.

Is a helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. From the ground, you can see the enormous volume of water, but only from the air does it become clear just how impressive the Victoria Falls really are. You can see the full width of the falls, the deep Batoka Gorge and the winding Zambezi River. In our view, this is one of the most beautiful scenic flights in Southern Africa. It does, however, come with a price tag. If you can also fly over the Okavango Delta later in your trip and want to choose just 1 of the 2, we think flying over the Okavango Delta is just that little bit more spectacular.

What activities are there in Livingstone besides visiting the Victoria Falls?

Accepted Answer

Much more than most travellers expect. You can, among other things: take a sunset cruise on the Zambezi; book a helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls; go mountain biking through Livingstone; visit the Batoka Gorge; discover local markets and restaurants; or relax by the river. That variety is precisely what makes Livingstone such a lovely destination to stay in for a few days.

Should I choose Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) or Livingstone (Zambia) as my base?

Accepted Answer

That depends entirely on your route. Are you travelling with a  hire car or your own 4x4 , then we generally advise you to  avoid unnecessary border crossings . Especially when you are visiting the Victoria Falls for only one or two days, it is convenient to stay on the side of the country through which your journey continues. The  Kazungula border  between Botswana and Zambia is generally smoother and more predictable than the border crossing between Botswana and Zimbabwe. Are you coming from Botswana and continuing your journey through Zambia? Then Livingstone is often the most logical choice. Are you continuing through Zimbabwe instead, for example towards  Hwange National Park  or  Mana Pools , then Victoria Falls Town is a logical base. If you are travelling from Botswana and are not continuing into Zimbabwe or Zambia, it is best to visit the Victoria Falls as a 1- or 2-day trip without a car.  Both Livingstone and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe provide access to the Victoria Falls, and each has its own atmosphere. Livingstone feels a little quieter and offers plenty of activities around the Zambezi, while Victoria Falls Town is more compact and means you stay closer to the Zimbabwean side of the falls.
