What makes Lower Zambezi so special?

For us, it is above all the sense of space.  Lower Zambezi has the same magical atmosphere that we also experience in Mana Pools: vast, peaceful and dotted with photogenic acacia trees.  Large herds of elephants move along the Zambezi River, while the ancient acacia trees create a landscape that constantly changes with the light. You can also spot prey species here; around the airstrip, wide-open plains offer far-reaching views.

What activities can you do in Lower Zambezi?

Game drives naturally form the basis of every visit. Lower Zambezi is also known for activities that are not permitted in many other national parks, such as: boat safaris; canoe safaris on the Zambezi; walking safaris; sport fishing (catch & and release). It is precisely this combination that makes Lower Zambezi so versatile.

When is the best time to visit Lower Zambezi?

The dry season, from approximately  June to October , offers the best wildlife viewing. The vegetation is less dense then, and many animals gather along the Zambezi River.

Should I choose camping or a lodge in Lower Zambezi?

It depends entirely on your travel style. Are you travelling on a  self-drive , then  Mvuu Camp  is the most logical base. From the campsite, it is approximately  45 minutes’ drive  to the entrance of the national park. From there, it takes another approximately  one and a half hours  to reach the most beautiful section along the Zambezi, where the characteristic acacia trees and the highest concentration of wildlife can be found. The exclusive lodges are also located here, such as  Time + Tide Chongwe Camp ,  Time + Tide Chongwe River House  and  Time + Tide Chinzombo . From these accommodations, you are right in the heart of the safari area and can make the most of the early morning and late afternoon, when the animals are most active. A self-drive and a luxury lodge are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary: you can choose to add one or two nights of luxury during your tour. Lower Zambezi is a perfect destination for this.
