What type of vehicle do I need for Mabuasehube?

For a visit to Mabuasehube, a proper 4WD is essential. For our Namibia & Botswana: The Desert Journey, we recommend a Toyota Land Cruiser. The deep Kalahari sand tracks, long distances and lack of assistance nearby call for a robust and reliable vehicle. Before driving into the park, it is essential to reduce the tyre pressure. During a personal Travel Consult, we will be happy to discuss which vehicle best suits your route and driving experience. Please bear in mind that good hire vehicles are in short supply.  During busy periods and the absolute peak season (the dry winter months from July to October), hire vehicles are  in short supply . Unfortunately, it is fairly common for travellers who only start planning a few months before departure to simply be unable to find a suitable vehicle. To avoid disappointment and ensure that you set off in a vehicle that perfectly suits your route, we recommend booking your vehicle  8 to 12 months in advance  .

Can I drive from Twee Rivieren to Mabuasehube in one day?

Accepted Answer

We advise against it. Although the distance on the map may not seem too great, the deep sandy roads mean that your average speed is low. You also want to drive in a relaxed way and avoid coming under time pressure. We therefore recommend driving from Twee Rivieren to Tsabong first and staying there overnight. The following day, you can enter Mabuasehube refreshed. If you leave the park via the northern side, the route towards Ghanzi is a logical next step.
