Majete is located in the south-west of Malawi, in the Lower Shire Valley. It is approximately a two-hour drive from Blantyre, making the reserve easy to include in a route through southern Malawi.

Yes. Majete is very suitable for self-drives. Visitors can drive approximately 55 kilometres of regular roads independently, while a further 350 kilometres of routes are accessible with a 4x4. During the wet season, a 4x4 may be necessary for certain sections.

We would recommend at least two nights. This gives you time for an evening and morning drive, as well as enough time to explore various routes along the river. With three nights, you can take things at a more leisurely pace and potentially add a guided game drive, walk or specialised birding drive. These activities are offered from the reserve.
