Rugged mountain ranges versus wildlife-rich volcanic craters. Marakele National Park and the Pilanesberg Game Reserve are often mentioned in the same breath as the two major Big Five destinations within driving distance of Johannesburg. Travellers are then faced with a choice: Marakele or Pilanesberg? In our view, this is actually an unfair comparison. Although they are located in the same region geographically, they offer completely different safari experiences.
