Are there sanitation facilities in Moremi?

Despite the extremely remote locations, all four main camps (South Gate, Third Bridge, Xakanaxa and North Gate) have  central, well-maintained ablution blocks . These are equipped with flush toilets and hot-water showers, often powered by solar energy. There is no electricity or Wi-Fi available at the campsite.

Can I buy fuel, water and groceries in Moremi?

Accepted Answer

No, there are  no petrol stations or supermarkets  within the Moremi Game Reserve. Some campsites, such as Third Bridge, have a tiny  tuck shop  where you can only buy firewood and cold soft drinks. You must be completely self-sufficient and purchase all your fuel, drinking water and food in Maun beforehand.

Are the campsites in Moremi safe since there are no fences?

Accepted Answer

yes, provided you strictly follow the wilderness rules. Because the campsites are  one hundred per cent unfenced  , lions, hyenas, leopards and elephants can walk through your camp at any time of day or night. Never leave food or rubbish outside, do not go out without a powerful torch once it is dark, and remain in your tent at all times during the night.

What is the current situation regarding the flooding in Moremi in 2026?

After extreme rainfall in March 2026, the authorities (DWNP) had to close the park completely to vehicles for several weeks. Since reopening,   certain camping areas and routes are still closed or impassable . The route between Khwai and Xakanaxa is impassable in many places, and sections around Third Bridge are also regularly closed because of water that is too deep.

Which campsites can you find in the Moremi Game Reserve?

Within the park’s boundaries are four well-known, completely unfenced campsites: South Gate (Maqwee) : Located right by the main entrance Third Bridge : Beautifully situated on the western side of the park along a tributary of the Moanachira River. Known for the elephants, hippos and hyenas that walk right past your tent in the evening. Xakanaxa : Located on the Mopane Tongue on the edge of the deep delta waters, popular for its shady spots and the three resident bull elephants that wander through the camp daily. North Gate (Khwai) : Situated right on the Khwai River at the park exit, forming the physical bridge to the Khwai concession.
